Taipei, Oct. 25 (CNA) A team led by Taiwanese opera director Tseng Tao-hsiung (曾道雄) will perform Spanish composer Manuel de Falla y Matheu’s puppet-opera “Master Peter’s Puppet Show” (“El retablo de maese Pedro”) in Spain in November, and the puppets used in the show will be donated to The Museum of Manuel de Falla in Granada afterwards.
The puppets were made for the puppet-opera’s premiere in Taiwan in 1995 and will be used again in the upcoming performance, Tseng said at a press conference held in Taipei on Tuesday.
According to Tseng, the puppets will be displayed in a newly created Taiwan section in the museum, alongside information regarding Falla’s works, adding that “the puppets are witnesses of cultural exchange between Taiwan and Spain.”
In addition to the puppet-opera, the team will also perform Taiwanese glove puppet master Chen Hsi-huang’s (陳錫煌) “A Chance Encounter Leads to Marriage” (“巧遇姻緣”) for Spanish audiences, Tseng said.
Describing the upcoming performance, Tseng called it “an exchange of tradition and innovation,” adding that he is very excited to have an opportunity to showcase such a creative work.
The performances will take place at the Enrique de la Cuadra Municipal Theater (Teatro Municipal Enrique de la Cuadra) in Seville on Nov. 4 and the Madrid Higher School of Singing (Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid) on Nov. 6.
