Brandauer and Auric Metal Finishers seal £1.5m Indian export order
Two West Midlands manufacturers are celebrating 40 years of working together with a major export order secured at Blechexpo.
Brandauer, one of the world’s leading independent metal stampers, has joined forces with another firm based in the West Midlands, Coventry’s Auric Metal Finishers, to design, develop and supply bespoke EloPin push fit-connectors for a Tier 1 automotive supplier in India.
The £1.5m order will see the Birmingham-based company produce up to 30 million parts annually in 2025 and will help create new jobs in the region. More via The Manufacturer
Airbus delivers 488 commercial aircraft in the nine months ended 30 September 2023, posts revenues of € 42.6bn
Airbus SE reported consolidated financial results for the nine months ended 30 September 2023.
Gross commercial aircraft orders totalled 1,280 (9m 2022: 856 aircraft) with net orders of 1,241 aircraft after cancellations (9m 2022: 647 aircraft). The order backlog amounted to 7,992 commercial aircraft at the end of September 2023. Airbus Helicopters registered 191 net orders (9m 2022: 246 units) which were well spread across programmes. Airbus Defence and Space’s order intake by value was € 8.5bn (9m 2022: € 8.0bn), including the renewal of the in-service support contract for Germany’s A400M fleet. More via Airbus
Almost 1 in 10 of scale-up businesses in the UK are in the manufacturing sector
OakNorth, the neobank for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs, has published new research with the Social Market Foundation, a cross-party think tank, revealing the outsized impact of scale-up businesses on the UK economy by region, country and sector.
The new report, titled ‘The Scale of the Opportunity’, follows the recent publication of ‘Full Scale’, which reveals the barriers preventing more SMEs in the UK from reaching scale-up stage and provides recommendations to government on how to overcome them. This new research has found that while scale-ups represent just one percent of all SMEs in the UK, they account for 22% of all SME turnover (£497bn), as well as eight percent of all SME employment. UKEF backs major Taiwan offshore wind project, creating over £130m in UK exports
UK Export Finance (UKEF) has agreed to support a Taiwanese offshore wind project with its largest ever project financing guarantee for renewables, securing over £130 million in UK manufacturing and service exports.
The government export credit agency is supporting the Hai Long project – Taiwan’s largest offshore wind project to date – with a guarantee for NT$15bn of financing, equivalent to £380m. This contribution supports a project financing package of over £3bn issued by more than 15 lenders to the Hai Long project, which is being developed by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui”) of Japan and Northland Power of Canada. UKEF was one of seven export credit agencies which guaranteed this financing. More via GOV UK
Babcock strengthens its support for the British Army
Babcock has announced a new charity partnership to assist serving soldiers, veterans and their families.
Babcock said it is pleased to be joining forces with the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), the British Army’s national charity, to support a number of its key events.
The partnership will play a significant role in supporting ABF to continue in its mission to provide lifetime support to individuals in need through a variety of initiatives including, supplying mobility equipment to help an injured veteran stay active and independent, clearing priority debt for an Army family who lost their income and faces eviction, and providing training to help a service leaver to build a sustainable second career. BAE Systems to develop custom microelectronics for next-generation radar, electronic warfare, and communication applications
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has awarded BAE Systems’ FAST Labs research and development organization a $5 million contract for the COALESCE (Common-architecture Amplifier for Low-cost, Efficient, SWaP-Constrained Environments) program.
In this effort, BAE Systems’ FAST Labs, will develop advanced Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) and module electronics. The program’s objective is to develop the world’s highest efficiency high power amplifier module in its frequency band. The radio-frequency (RF) modules will then transition to small form factor U.S. Navy payloads, enabling longer range and greater effectiveness in active electronic warfare applications. Small business confidence plummets to three-year low in UK manufacturing
The percentage of manufacturing small businesses that predict growth has fallen to its lowest level for three years (23% in Q4 2020).
New data from Novuna Business Finance reveals that only 24% of small business owners in the manufacturing sector predict growth for the months ahead, representing a quarter-on-quarter fall through 2023. More via London Loves Business
