China’s detention of a Taiwanese fishing boat this week may have been politically motivated, the island’s spy chief said, adding the move may be a way to pressure the democratically run island.
The government in Taipei will watch to see whether Beijing uses the incident as a way to try to show it has sovereignty over Taiwan, National Security Bureau head Tsai Ming-yen told reporters Thursday. He also warned Taiwanese fishermen to be on alert.
