The Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline Association (台灣同志諮詢熱線協會) and Taiwan Equality Campaign (彩虹平權大平台) jointly released the results of their 2023 survey on Thursday. The survey examined the workplace conditions for LGBTQ+ in Taiwan.

Results showed that more than half of the respondents, or 50.8%, expressed that their workplace did not have gender-friendly measures nor were gay-friendly opinions expressed. 29% had encountered bosses, supervisors or coworkers who expressed unkind comments about LGBTQ. 4.9% had been treated unequally because of their gender or attire and 3.8% had been unfairly treated because of speculation or revelation of their sexuality.

Taiwan Equality Campaign Deputy Executive Director Lin Chun-yen (林均諺) said that there is a lot of room for growth in Taiwan’s workplace culture. He said at present homosexuals rely on themselves to adapt to the workplace environment and more than 50% of enterprises and companies have not taken any actions.

In order to invite more enterprises to participate in creating LGBT-friendly workplaces, the Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline Association and Taiwan Equality Campaign launched the first LGBT-friendly workplace indicators in Taiwan. Companies will be recruited to respond before September and the results will be announced at the end of the year.
