Taiwan fishery patrol vessel makes rare maintenance stop in Japan – Focus Taiwan Feedzy

Taipei, Aug. 8 (CNA) Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) confirmed Tuesday that one of its fishery patrol vessels, Hsun Hu No. 8, is currently making a maintenance stop at a port in Japan.

The vessel is docking at Harumi Wharf in Tokyo for food, water and fuel supplies, after setting sail on July 15 from southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung to conduct its second high seas patrol this year, according to the CGA.

After maintenance, the ship will continue its 60-day mission until Sept. 12, the CGA said.

It is the first time since 2013 a CGA vessel has docked at a Japanese port for supplies.

CGA made the confirmation after the vessel was spotted earlier in the day by local residents, triggering online discussions among Japanese and Taiwanese netizens.

Hsun Hu No. 8, which was built in Taiwan in 2012, has a roughly 1,900-ton displacement, which refers to the volume of water displaced by the vessel converted to weight, according to the CGA.

The ship is 84.5 meters in length and 12.5 meters in width, it said.
