Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) Taiwan’s Air Force and Navy will jointly conduct their annual live-fire exercise using air-to-air and anti-ship missiles in waters off Taiwan’s southeastern coast for three days from Aug. 15, according to a military source.
Dubbed as a “precision missile drill,” the three-day missile live-fire testing on Aug. 15-17 is a major military exercise organized alternately by the Air Force and the Navy every year to assess combat readiness, a military source said.
The drill will see Air Force fighters — Mirage-2000-5s and domestically made Indigenous Defense Fighters — fire MBDA MICA missiles and F-16Vs to test the firing ability of the AIM-120 medium-range air-to-air missiles, the source said.
In the exercise, the Navy will fire Taiwan-made Hsiung Feng anti-ship missiles at four decommissioned vessels, including two Ching Chiang-class patrol vessels and two rescue and salvage ships, the military source said.
Taiwan’s military concluded its five-day annual Han Kuang live-fire drills testing the Taiwanese military’s ability to fend off a Chinese invasion late last month.
