Taipei, Aug. 11 (CNA) The Paper Windmill Theatre is returning to Taiwan’s Kinmen Islands to perform after a 15-year hiatus as part of its 368 Townships Children’s Art Project, Chairman Li Yuan (李遠) said Thursday.
According to Li, better known by his pen name Hsiao Yeh (小野), the group sees its return to Kinmen as very important, especially after having not performed anywhere for the past three years, and its members have put a lot of time and effort into preparing for these shows.
One of the productions to be staged will be “Wu Song fights a tiger,” a tale from the classic Chinese novel Outlaws of the Marsh that tells of a man named Wu Song who became a hero after killing a man-eating tiger with his bare hands.
The other piece being performed will be “Taiwan Fantasy,” which includes a 20-minute section that chronicles Kinmen’s history and culture and is aimed at giving Kinmen residents insight into their islands.
Paper Windmill Theatre CEO Chang Min-yi (張敏宜) said that beyond the history found in the stories performed, the show is also full of local legends and tales, landmarks and local specialties.
Speaking about the Paper Windmill Theatre’s appearance, Kinmen Cultural Affairs Bureau Director-General Lu Kun-ho (呂坤和) said he welcomed the group and hoped they will be able to visit and perform in Kinmen often.
The Paper Windmill Theatre is performing for five straight days in Kinmen starting from Aug. 11. “Taiwan Fantasy” will be performed on Aug. 11, 13 and 15, and “Wu Song fights a tiger” will be staged on Aug. 12 and 14.
