Art Bank exhibition in NYC to offer modern Taiwan art – moc.gov.tw Feedzy

As part of Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to boost the visibility of Taiwan’s contemporary arts, Art Bank Taiwan has partnered with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York to hold a two-month exhibition from Nov. 30, 2017 through Jan. 26, 2018.

“What Do You See? – Contemporary Art From Taiwan” features seven up-and-coming artists on the subject of reality and the ways people interpret the world through sight and language. The exhibition, which includes paintings and sculptures as well as new media and installation art, is curated to facilitate dialogue between Taiwanese artists and their international peers.

Art Bank Taiwan is a Ministry of Culture initiative established in 2013 to assist the nation’s emerging young artists in receiving more exposure and opportunities. The first phase of the program includes an annual budget of NT$70 million (US$2.4 million) dedicated to purchasing local art pieces of great potential.

By collaborating with the private sector, Art Bank Taiwan is working to secure new exhibition spaces in corporate headquarters, hotel chains, and children’s hospitals. It is also working in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation to disseminate Taiwan’s culture through public spaces like Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Kaohsiung International Airport.

The program is now entering its third phase, where the Ministry of Culture is actively pursuing cultural diplomacy by loaning art pieces to foreign agencies as well as the nation’s embassies and cultural offices around the world.

In the first formal collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that kicked off last month, the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore adorned its hallways and the representative’s official residence with 37 art pieces by 29 artists on loan from the Art Bank Taiwan collection.

“What Do You See?” marks the first time that works from Art Bank Taiwan will be shown in New York City. Visit the Taipei Cultural Center in New York for an admission-free stroll through the vivid artworks by Taiwan artists Chang Teng-yuan (張騰遠), Chen Qing-yao (陳擎耀), Hou I-ting (侯怡亭), Liao Yu-an (廖堉安), Tu Pei-shih (杜珮詩), Yeh Yi-li (葉怡利), and and Yuan Goang-ming (袁廣鳴).
