Batter-up Richmond! A baseball team from Taiwan will be in town Wednesday evening to play against the Richmond Chuckers 13U AA team at the Palmer Baseball Complex.
The game isn’t just about boasting rights but is also a cross-cultural partnership between Taiwan and Canada through sports.
Batting against the Richmond Chuckers will be the Fu-Yuan elementary 13U team from Taiwan, which includes 10 and 11-year-old players.
During their nine-day trip to Canada, the Taiwanese team has already played against two teams in Abbotsford.
Yuhan Chen, a Richmond resident and one of the local coordinators for the Fu-Yuan team, helped set up the Wednesday evening exhibition game in Richmond.
“We are expecting a big crowd because we have a pretty big Taiwanese community here,” said Chen.
“It’s really about building connections and learning about culture.”
The game will take place at 8260 St. Albans Rd. at 6 p.m.
