China’s Xi Jinping calls on ‘patriots’ to fend off Taiwan pro-independence fight – Firstpost Feedzy

 

Speaking on the issue, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the one-China principle is the consensus of the international community and condoning support for “Taiwan independence” is a challenge to Beijing’s sovereignty.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for the mobilisation of “patriots” in Taiwan and abroad to counter pro-independence movements on the self-governing island. During a meeting with the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, a political organisation based on the mainland and separate from Taiwan’s primary opposition party, Xi urged the group which is aligned with the ruling Communist Party to unite “all patriots from home and abroad both inside and outside of Taiwan.”

Wang reiterates Beijing’s refrain that it will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with Taiwan and that it will not allow Taiwan to be separated from the mainland. He also warned that those who support Taiwan’s independence will “get burned for playing with fire”.
