Ex-China premier’s death won’t lead to imminent Taiwan invasion … – Focus Taiwan Feedzy

Taipei, Nov. 1 (CNA) The death of former Chinese Premier Li Keqiang (李克強) won’t lead to a Chinese invasion of Taiwan in the near future, National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo (顧立雄) said in the Legislative Yuan on Wednesday.

China is currently attempting to solve its internal challenges with President Xi Jinping (習近平) focused on stabilizing the economy, Koo said while being questioned by legislators, adding that he therefore did not think China had any intention to invade Taiwan in the short term.

Koo added that China wants the meeting between Xi and U.S. President Joe Biden at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit next month to go ahead without incident, and would, therefore, try and mitigate any possible risk.

Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) was also questioned by lawmakers about how the passing of Li could impact the economies on both sides of the strait because of his friendly stance towards Taiwanese firms.

However, Wang said she hoped China would treat Taiwanese businesses well due to their long-term contribution to the Chinese economy and called on the companies to follow local regulations.
