Taipei, Nov. 25 (CNA) Taiwanese prodigy Audrey Lin (林品彤) was picked from a group of talented performers as Golden Horse Awards best leading actress on Saturday for her emotionally involving performance in the drama “Trouble Girl” (小曉) by director Chin Chia-hua (靳家驊).
The victory made her the youngest ever winner of the category.
In the movie, Lin portrays Hsiao Hsiao (小曉), a schoolgirl whose love-hate relationship with her mother becomes more tenuous after she discovers her mother is having an extramarital affair with her teacher.
Other contenders for the honor included Chinese actress Hu Ling (胡伶), who was nominated for her role in “Carp Leaping Over Dragon’s Gate” (菠蘿,鳳梨); Hong Kong actress/lyricist Chung Suet-ying (鍾雪瑩) for her role in “The Lyricist Wannabe” (填詞撚); veteran actress Lu Hsiao-fen (陸小芬) for her comeback in “Day Off” (本日公休); and Hong Kong actress Jennifer Yu (余香凝) for her role in “In Broad Daylight” (白日之下).
In her acceptance speech, the 12-year-old Lin thanked Chin for taking a chance on her, the film’s executive producers Yeh Ju-fen (葉如芬) and Wang Hsiao-yin (王小茵), and her co-stars.
She also thanked her character and hoped that those who are as special as Hsiao Hsiao keep being kind and not give up because “things will look up.”
In 2021, Lin grabbed the attention of audiences and critics with her cinematic debut “American Girl” (美國女孩) by director Fiona Roan (阮鳳儀).
This was Lin’s first Golden Horse nomination and her first win.
