Hon Hai partners with ADI in digital car cockpit, battery development – Focus Taiwan Feedzy

Taipei, July 22 (CNA) Taiwan-based manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which is ramping up efforts to break into the global electric vehicle market, has teamed up with U.S. semiconductor developer Analog Devices (ADI), to develop the next-generation digital car cockpit and high-performance battery management system.

Liu Young-way ((劉揚偉), chairman of iPhone assembler Hon Hai, better known as Foxconn globally, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with ADI’s CEO and Chair Vincent Roche regarding the cooperation.

Hon Hai said the partnership showed that the two companies are determined to pave a transformative path for the advancement of software-defined and more sustainable, feature-rich vehicles, with the ultimate goal of accelerating the development of the automobile industry.

According to Hon Hai, ADI, which has shares traded on the tech-heavy Nasdaq market, is aiming to expedite the decarbonization of transportation and the energy grid.

ADI’s lead over its peers in battery, power and energy management helps to enable the high performance, reliability and resilience of its electrification ecosystem, such as in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and renewable energy generation, Hon Hai added.

Hon Hai said ADI has integrated analog, digital, and software technologies in order to upgrade digitized factories, digital healthcare, combat climate change and to provide communication solutions for people around the world.

Hon Hai cited data saying that ADI, which has about 25,000 people working alongside 125,000 clients worldwide, posted more than US$12 billion in revenue in the fiscal year of 2022.

“Foxconn actively collaborates with international partners to link ecosystems and unlock greater value in electric car technology and smart transportation,” Liu said in a statement, adding, “We are looking forward to working with ADI to leverage its high-performance automotive electronics technology, enabling our clients to overcome obstacles and seize emerging possibilities.”

In order to transform itself from simply being a contract electronics manufacturer into a company that is fully able to combine its hardware and software capabilities, Hon Hai has outlined a so-called “3 plus 3” initiative.

The name refers to three emerging industries — EVs, robots and digital health care — that are being developed through the application of artificial intelligence, semiconductor and communication technologies.
