Taipei, Jan. 8 (CNA) Several Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) candidates who are running for seats in Taiwan’s Jan. 13 legislative elections shared rare moments together at events in Taipei on Monday and called for unity among the opposition parties.
Attending an event against government corruption at Wolong Park in Da’an District in the morning, KMT legislative candidate Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) and TPP candidate Tsai Pi-ru (蔡壁如) echoed the same theme.
Tsai, who is running in Taichung’s first electoral district, said unity among the opposition parties was very important and was the only way to consolidate votes.
A former TPP at-large legislator, she will face Deputy Legislative Speaker Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the race on Saturday.
Although uniting opposition forces in this election will not be easy, former Taipei City Councilor Lo said Tsai’s electoral district will be a good demonstration of the cooperation between the KMT and TPP.
Lo, who is running in Taipei’s 6th electoral district covering Da’an District, praised the TPP candidate for having established good relations with all sides’ supporters in Taichung.
Elsewhere in Taipei, TPP at-large legislative candidate Lin Hsiao-chi (林筱淇) was also at a campaign event to show support for Chang Szu-kang (張斯綱), the KMT legislative candidate running for the seat in Taipei’s first electoral district that covers Beitou and western Shilin.
Chang is facing an uphill challenge against two-term DPP Legislator Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤).
Lin was a deputy spokesperson for then-Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), who founded the TPP, from 2014 to 2018.
