CHANGSHA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Friday met with a delegation led by Sean Lien, vice chair of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party in Changsha, central China’s Hunan Province.

Lien’s delegation came to the mainland to attend the Hunan-Taiwan cooperation conference on economy and trade, which runs from Thursday to Sunday.

During their meeting, Song said “we will, on the basis of the common political foundation of adhering to the ‘1992 Consensus’ and opposing ‘Taiwan independence’, work with the Chinese KMT party as well as other relevant political parties, organizations and people from various sectors in Taiwan to enhance exchanges and cooperation, deepen integrated development, and boost the wellbeing of compatriots across the Taiwan Strait.”

Song also called for efforts to bring the cross-Strait relations back to the right track of peaceful development, and ensure that the future of cross-Strait relations remains firmly in the hands of Chinese people on both sides of the Strait.

Lien said the Chinese KMT party will continue to uphold the “1992 Consensus,” stand against “Taiwan independence,” and strive to safeguard the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and ensure the mutual benefits and win-win outcome for both sides of the Strait. ?
