“I thought it was a vibe,” Numcha said when she first heard the demo for ‘I’ll Be Mine’.
John Uy, manager of Filipino funk-pop act flu shared the track with the Thai singer-songwriter when they met at last year’s LUCfest in Taiwan. ” I listened and when the first note played, I was like ‘Sure thing I’m in!’ This song is charming and quite challenging for me since I’ve never worked on something like this before,” Numcha shared in an interview with Bandwagon. “Gonna be a fun mix!”
‘I’ll Be Mine’ was initially written in 2019, but flu felt like “the timing wasn’t right just yet.” The band also added how the track wasn’t even intended as a song for flu “because clearly, the lyrics were written from a woman’s perspective.” Years later, the foursome stumbled upon the song again, and decided it would probably work better as a track with a featured artist. “We listened to a few Asian singers to find the perfect voice and vibe that matched our vision for the song.”

Numcha and flu got to hang out at LUCfest, and somehow agreed to work on the collaboration together, but they weren’t quite sure it would push through. “We were worried none of us would even remember the agreement the next day but as you can see, we all did!,” flu shared.
They got to work as soon as they went back to their respective countries, with Numcha lending her vocals to the flu-composed track. “Once we returned from Taiwan, we started sending demos and lyrics back and forth, trying to nail the perfect sound,” Numcha revealed. “After we sent her the demo and told her to add her vibe to it, we immediately knew what she was going for,” flu added.
Like with every partnership, there are bound to be differences in opinions and preferences, which flu welcomed. “It isn’t a bad thing, and it all worked out in the end!”
Numcha also shared how sometimes chatting online “just doesn’t cut it when you’re in the creative zone.” The artists hopped on a Zoom call to make sure everyone was on the same page, and to fine-tune everything before she started recording the final vocals. “I sang out notes and lyrics until we both were like… ‘This is it.'”

For both artists, this song is memorable in many ways. Numcha calls this project “a blast, my favourite so far”. Meanwhile, flu are stoked about their first-ever international collaboration.
The new track is a follow-up to flu’s 2022 single, ‘Ain’t Hidin,’ while this marks Numcha’s first release since her 2023 EP, hewantscoffeebutiamtea.
