Taïrroir, JL Studio awarded 3 stars in latest Michelin Guide – Focus Taiwan Feedzy

Taipei, Aug. 31 (CNA) Restaurants Taïrroir and JL Studio became the latest establishments in Taiwan to receive three stars from the Michelin Guide, joining Le Palais, which received the guide’s maximum rating for the sixth year in a row.

At a ceremony in Taipei Thursday, Gwendal Poullennec, the Michelin Guide’s international director, said Taipei-based Taïrroir and Taichung-based JL Studio were also the first three-starred Michelin restaurants in the world to feature Taiwanese and Singaporean cuisine, respectively.

Regardless of the challenges faced by Taiwan over the past year, it is outstanding to note that the local restaurant industry is again flourishing, with plenty of exciting new openings and many eateries upscaling their propositions, Poullennec said.

“Our 2023 restaurant selection bears witness to this massive progress, and the historical and exceptional results it includes, such as the new award of three Michelin stars to restaurants Taïrroir and JL Studio, are remarkable and obvious proof of this,” he said.

This year’s Michelin Guide included 44 restaurants in Taiwan – three three-starred, six two-starred, and 35 one-starred – a significant increase from 2022’s 38.

A Michelin three-star rating denotes “exceptional cuisine worth a journey,” while the two-star and one-star categories recommend excellent cooking worth a detour and high quality cooking worth a stop, respectively, according to the guide.
