Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has won an unprecedented third term in Taiwan’s presidential polls. Lai Ching-te (William Lai) has been elected President of the Republic of China after beating his rivals Hou You-yi, the candidate of China’s oldest political party, Kuomintang (KMT), and Ko Wen-je, the leader of the newly formed Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), in a three-way contest.
