Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

Leading financial CEOs will testify before the Senate Banking Committee.
The House will take up legislation to cancel the Biden administration’s student debt relief initiative, while the Senate plans to vote on foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
President Joe Biden is in campaign mode, attending high-dollar fundraisers hosted by celebrities on both coasts, while Republicans vying for the nomination to challenge him will be in Alabama Wednesday for their fourth debate.

HOUSE

The House will hold floor votes tomorrow through Thursday, including a disapproval resolution targeting Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.
The Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow on regulatory agencies’ use of innovative technology.
Also tomorrow, the Education and Workforce Committee will hold a hearing regarding antisemitism on college campuses.

SENATE

The Senate will be in session throughout the week, taking up a foreign aid package as the White House presses the urgency of funding for Ukraine in particular – but no bipartisan agreement has materialized on the supplemental funding.
Tomorrow, the Judiciary Committee will hold an oversight hearing with FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Wednesday, the Banking Committee will hold a hearing with the top executives of several of the country’s largest financial institutions.

WHITE HOUSE

Tomorrow, Biden will travel to Boston for campaign events, including a fundraiser concert with James Taylor.
Wednesday, the president will speak at the White House Tribal Nations Summit.
Later in the week, Biden will attend fundraisers hosted by Hollywood celebrities including Steven Spielberg.
