The variety show “Super Nightclub” recently visited Chaoyuan Temple in Wuci, Taichung. Host Hu Gua introduced the local “Carrying the Palanquin” activity, which boasts a 150-year history. To let everyone experience this intangible cultural heritage, Hu Gua invited the palanquin teams from both Chaoyuan Temple and Long’an Temple, along with local students, to participate in a palanquin-carrying competition. Competing teams had to lift the palanquin, sprint forward, and then do a return run. The team that returned to the starting point the fastest would advance to the finals. Under the scorching sun, the competition began, and despite the odds, the celebrity team made an unexpected comeback and advanced to the finals. Seeing the celebrities breathless and exhausted after the race, Hu Gua sympathetically praised, “You all are really amazing!”
The hosts also led everyone on a tour of the painted walls on Wuci Old Street and used the special “sky mirror” photo technique to capture stunning influencer-style photos. Additionally, they sampled local delicacies at a nearby market, receiving a warm welcome from the local residents. To give back to the enthusiastic locals, the production team prepared a game called “Turtle Turtle Shell” for everyone to challenge. In this game, two participants dressed in turtle costumes had to crawl on stage. The pair that could raise the same head, hand, or foot simultaneously and accumulate the most consecutive matches would win.
As the game began, participants repeatedly failed, even the “bad luck duo” Ah Xiang and Lan Lan couldn’t pass. Watching the bleak performance gave “King of Turtles” Hu Gua the chance to boast about his quick reflexes, boldly allowing everyone to choose an opponent for him. He promised that if they couldn’t match movements consecutively five times, he would accept a punishment. As the game commenced, both participants, dressed in turtle costumes and crawling on the ground, matched movements five times consecutively. No matter the pose, they were in sync, prompting everyone to exclaim in amazement and inevitably crown Hu Gua as the “King of Games.”
