The inaugural Yes 933 Hits Fest came to a successful close last night (Nov 26). For three hours, the sold-out crowd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium were entertained by local and regional artistes, including Taiwanese acts WeiBird and AccuseFive, Chinese actor-singer Zhang Zhehan, and Thai heartthrob Bright Vachirawit.

More than 7000 fans filled the stadium, some wearing specially made tees of their favourite artistes, while others held up flashing neon signs of the names they couldn’t wait to catch on stage.

Yes 933 DJs Chen Ning, Gao Meigui, Jeff Goh, Hazelle Teo, and Zhong Kunhua were the hosts for the night, and the artistes went home with awards which include: Artiste Of The Year, Newcomer Of The Year, SPOP Media Recommendation, and Yes 933 Hitmakers.

Scroll down to read our favourite moments of the night, and to find out who won what.

Taiwanese singer Weibird talking about chicken rice on stage

Meigui and Chen Ning asked the 36-year-old YES 933 Hits Fest 2023 Artiste Of The Year, who hosted the Golden Melody Awards in July, to choose between singing and composing or hosting.

“Of course singing. Singing is my bread and butter,” he answered without hesitation.

He then turned to the DJs and chirped: “Why would I snatch your rice bowls when I’m not even sure if the rice in it tastes good?”

“Okay lah in Singapore I think your chicken rice should taste not bad,” he laughed.

Weibird is surprisingly humorous, isn’t he?

Taiwanese star Po Lin had no idea he was receiving an award until the day before

You would think all the performers would have gotten the memo that they were here to win something but that was apparently not the case for the 29-year-old singer, who won Newcomer Of The Year last night.

“To be honest, I only found out that I was here to receive an award during rehearsals yesterday,” confessed the champion of 2021 Taiwanese music competition Jungle Voice.

So what did he think he was here for?

“I thought I was just here to perform and share my music with everyone,” he chuckled.

AccuseFive jio-ed everyone to eat fishball noodles with them during their next visit

Whenever we ask overseas celebs what local fare they’ve tried in Singapore, the standard answers would be chilli crab, Hainanese chicken rice or bak kut teh.

But for the Taiwanese band, who was the only group to win Artiste Of The Year last night, what they ate was pretty unexpected.

“We had a lot of delicious food last night. We had fishball noodles. Oh, the fishball noodles were so yummy,” gushed vocalist Chuan Ching, 26.

She also added that she and her bandmates Pan Yun An, 28, and Richard Lin, 32, have already tried chilli crab when they were here for their Lost And Found concert in Feb.

“I really love fishballs, they’re so squishy, so cute!” she said.

When Kunhua asked if they would want to have fishball noodles together next time, Chuan Ching then turned to the crowd and said: “Eh you want [to go] together?”

Well, guess we all have a date to have fishball noodles with AccuseFive now?

Bright had a cultural exchange on stage with Hazelle and Jeff

The 25-year-old Thai multi-hyphenate, who was the special guest for the night, performed English song ‘Lost & Found’ and Thai song ‘Move (Unmovable)’.

“Singing has always been my dream since I was very young because of my family business — we have a music school, so music has always been a part of my life,” he said to Hazelle and Jeff on stage.

Bright went on to share his favourite Singaporean dishes, which include bak kut teh and chilli crab. It was then that Jeff and Hazelle taught him the word ‘shiok’, i.e. bak kut teh is very shiok.

Bright, who did an amazing job at pronouncing the Singlish word, was in turn asked to share the Thai phrases for “beautiful girl” and “handsome guy”.

We now know that they are “khun suay mak” and “khun lor mak”. And if the cheers from the audience were any indication, we also know that fans loved hearing Bright say it.

P.S. Stay tuned for our interview with Bright.

Zhang Zhehan, Jeff and Kunhua formed SG’s new boyband?

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that a good half of the audience were there for the 32-year-old Chinese singer-actor.

Blue lightsticks were waved around the arena as Zhehan took the stage to perform the single, ‘Chase’ (追), and two medleys, which also included the Hit Of The Year, ‘Magnificent Life’ (人生海海).

“Don’t you think that when the three of us stand together, we look like an idol group?” asked Kunhua. The three people he was referring to? Himself, Zhehan and Jeff. Cue polite laughter from the crowd.

“I think we’re really attractive,” continued Kunhua as he and Jeff made Zhehan pose and smize for the cameras.

Zhehan was totally game, and their efforts reminded us of a 2000s boy band poster.

“I think this is the key point of the whole concert, this is the climax,” said Jeff, with Kunhua adding: “This is the moment our views peak.”

And you know what? We don’t doubt that at all.

Look out for our interview with Zhang Zhehan.

As if the fans couldn’t gush over Zhehan more, the star dazzled them with his very best “idol pose”
